Mark Aranzamendez, aka Coach AZ, proudly served his country as part of the Armed Forces since 1997. He's a U.S. Airborne Paratrooper Veteran who got his nickname "AZ" while serving.
This is Coach AZ's second season with the San Leandro Crusaders. He's been coaching for over ten years in multiple sports including boxing, football, and rugby. He was also part of the coaching staff with Antioch Youth Football league in 2009. His favorite part of coaching is the mentorship with the student-athletes and seeing the joy they experience when they accomplish their goals both on and off the field.
Coach AZ believes in building kid's confidence and developing a great work ethic in our children to develop them as leaders not only on our football team but in life. He firmly believes he is where his is today due to the work ethic. He wants kids to understand that in order to be successful it takes hard work and dedication, and the ability to work together as a team to achieve a common goal.
Coach AZ married his high school sweetheart Magdalena and have two daughters, Alexus & Jayden and two sons, Justin & Jayce, and granddaughter Reynalyn.
Coach Bobby Barber (aka Coach B) has been coaching sports for about six years. He coaches basketball, baseball and is currently in his 3rd year of coaching football. Coach B, believes football can impact the lives of our youth in many positive ways. He believes football can teach them sportsmanship, leadership, confidence, and brotherhood. Coach B has said "I do not consider myself successful unless every member of my team has walked away with a new or improved skill by the end of the season. Somehow championships have a way of following me"
Richard Lee, an Oakland native , is also a Castlemont High alumni class of 2007 graduate where he played six varsity sports. Coach Lee played at DVC as a linebacker and defensive end. After his time at DVC he transferred to Texas college and graduated with a Bachelor's of Art degree in Liberal Studies. Coach Lee's philosophy is team building, culture and character development. Richard has been coaching since 2013 at Castlemont high school and the Seminoles 12U team. He is now looking forward to bringing his football knowledge to the San Leandro Crusaders Varsity program for the 2022-2023 season.
We are looking for coaches who can help educate our kids in all areas of development including developing team leaders.
We are seeking coaches that have a moderate level of knowledge of the game of football and can manage a team of children ranging in age from 7-14. Our focus will be to help them develop and appreciate the game of football and teamwork as they make their way through our program ready and prepared for high school.
The Coach will be responsible for teaching football skills to a team with varying levels of skill and abilities. Training will be required and provided by USA Football as well as supplemental coordinated clinics organized with various coaches in our local area. You will be required pass a background check and obtain CPR/1st Aid Certification. You will also be scheduled for an interview with our Executive Board Members. You will also be required to attend monthly Board Meetings held every 3rd Wednesday.
